Intensity should be high on Sept. 7 at Rose Stadium in Tyler for the rematch between Class 4A powers Lancaster and John Tyler, who will both be looking for encores to superb 2012 seasons.

Lancaster reached the 4A D-II title game, while JT's season was ended by Denton Guyer in a 4A D-I semifinal for the ages.

Last season's meeting between the two came down to the wire and ended in bizarre fashion.

John Tyler trailed 26-7 late in the third quarter, but battled all the way back and was threatening to complete the comeback. After a stop on defense, Lancaster players rushed the field thinking they'd just upset the No. 1 team in the state, but JT got timeout with two seconds remaining from the Lancaster 1-yard line. The snap was a low, and Lancaster recovered to put the finishing touches on the 26-21 upset victory.

JT graduated most of its standouts from the 2012 team, while Lancaster's dynamic athlete Nick Harvey transferred out of the district during the offseason. Lancaster brings back more starting experience and may have an advantage on paper, but the JT players involved in last year's classic remember how last year's game ended and have probably had this game circled for a while now.

They won't have to wait long.
