When Kilgore and Henderson matched up last season in Kilgore, what unfolded was one of the most physical and competitive games in the area all season, which is to be expected when a pair of old rivals get together.

And while Kilgore enters this year's matchup on Nov. 1 with loads more experience than its District 16-3A counterpart, another classic is certainly not out of the question in this rivalry game.

In last season's game, Henderson took a 3-0 lead into halftime only to see Kilgore regain momentum with a long touchdown run on the Bulldogs' first drive of the second half. The Lions re-took the lead, 10-7, early in the fourth quarter and it seemed as if Henderson was primed to pull off the upset of the previously-unbeaten Bulldogs on their home field.

With less than two minutes remaining, Kilgore used a 47-yard pass to set up a first-and-goal inside the Henderson 5 and scored with 38 seconds remaining for a 14-10 win.

This year's game could have big-time implications in the "District of Doom" race. Kilgore plays reigning league champion Gilmer the next week to close out the regular season, while Henderson could be fighting to stay alive in the playoff hunt. An upset win could go a long way in helping the Lions reach the postseason.
