Two teams that played twice and made for one of East Texas' best games in 2012 meet again in a key District 9-2A Division II matchup.

Elysian Fields and Hughes Springs split their 2012 meetings; Hughes Springs hammered the Yellow Jackets 55-14 in EF on Oct. 26, but the Jackets avenged that loss in a big way in their 21-14 Class 2A Division II Region III championship win at Longview's Lobo Stadium on Dec. 8.

The latter game ranked No. 10 ETSN.fm's postseason countdown of the region's best games of the 2012 season.

Both teams graduated a ton of talent from last year's squads, but the game figures to once again be a pivotal matchup in the 9-2A D-II race come Oct. 25.

Hughes Springs' Michael Martinez is back after rushing for 1,933 yards and 29 touchdowns yards a year ago, along with safety Chad McKinney, who picked off seven passes.

They'll face an Elysian Fields team that lost almost all of its playmakers in the passing game: quarterback Trevor Spear (3,461 total yards, 46 total TDs) and receivers Tyler Hall and Christian Smith.

But the Jackets will have a third-year starter at tailback in Tanner Davis, as well as a few veterans on the offensive line. Leading tackler Tanner Norman will be asked to contain Martinez and the always-potent Mustang ground game led by 6-foot-3, 305-pound offensive lineman Kyre Lewis.
