Arkansas Offers Diboll’s Herbert Gums
The third Division I scholarship offer arrived Thursday for Diboll 2020 ATH Herbert Gums.
The Lumberjacks' two-way standout reported via Twitter that Arkansas has offered.
Gums (6-1, 243) also holds Division I offers from Houston and Stephen F. Austin.
Last season, Gums split time at running back and finished with 564 yards and six touchdowns on 71 attempts. He is also a target on the defensive side of the ball for college coaches, who could use him at either linebacker or on the defensive line.
Diboll was 6-4 last season, losing to Gilmer in the bi-district round of the Class 4A Division II playoffs. The Lumberjacks are dropping to 3A Division I for the 2018 and 2019 seasons.
Arkansas has become extremely active in recruiting East Texas in recent months. The Razorbacks have already secured three area commitments from the 2019 class, and have six offers out to local players in 2020.
Chad Morris, an East Texas native and former SMU coach, is entering his first season at the helm in Arkansas. He brought with him an assistant coach that also has ties to East Texas in Jeff Traylor, who won three state championships as head coach at Gilmer from 2000-14.
Arkansas was 4-8 overall and 1-7 in SEC play in 2017.
Gums, like all incoming juniors, is first eligible to sign with any program that offers him in December of 2019.
