Last season, Sparkman caught 26 passes for 475 yards and two touchdowns. The Pirates were 3-8 in 2017 and advanced to the bi-district round of the Class 5A Division II playoffs.

Arkansas competes in the SEC and finished 4-8 this past season. Jeff Traylor, the former coach at Gilmer, is the associate head coach to Chad Morris, who will begin his first season next year.

Sparkman, like all sophomores, is first eligible to sign with any school that offers him beginning in December 2019.
