Arp’s 21-20 Win Against West Rusk Makes Things Interesting In District 9-3A D-II
NEW LONDON -- Arp pulled even with West Rusk in the District 9-3A Division II standings Friday in thrilling fashion, a 21-20 head-to-head win for the road team at Bruce Bradshaw Stadium.
Demontre Wade tied the game, 20-20, on a 61-yard run with less than three minutes to play and Gunner Mason scored on the point after kick for the game-winning point to hand the Raiders their first loss to the season.
While West Rusk (6-1, 2-1) has a game in hand against the Tigers (6-2, 3-1), both sides are now one-loss teams tied for second place behind Elysian Fields in first place.
The Raiders led 14-6 at halftime after touchdowns from L.J. Harper and Jacob Waller sandwiched around a 6-yard touchdown from Tigers running back and SMU commitment Kayce Medlock.
Arp tied the game, 14-14, in the third quarter on quarterback Tyler Stewart's 1-yard dive and a successful two point conversion.
Harper put West Rusk in good position to win the game under the five-minute mark of the fourth period with a 3-yard touchdown, but the team missed its extra point attempt.
West Rusk will travel to Waskom next Friday. Arp also will be in action at Troup.
