TERRELL – Avery Johnson Jr. scored 13 overtime points as Plano West battled past Longview, 75-65, in a back-and-forth area matchup at Terrell ISD’s Athletic Complex.

Johnson – son of former Mavericks coach Avery Johnson – finished with a team-high 24 points for District 10-5A Champion Plano West, which advanced to the 5A Region II quarterfinals, meeting Richardson Berkner at a time and place to be determined.

Cadell Williams led Longview with 23 points. JaMycal Hasty added 14 and Trey O’Quinn followed with 13 for the Lobos, whose season ended at 22-13.

After entering the second quarter tied 18-18, Longview took a 36-34 lead into halftime. Williams finished with 17 in the first half for the Lobos. DJ Hogg – a highly recruited 6-8 junior – had 15 for Plano West.

Johnson scored nine points as part of Plano West's overtime-opening 12-0 run, taking a 66-54 lead with 1:38 remaining. Hasty finished with nine points for the Lobos in the extra session.
