A fifth Big 12 Conference school offered Gilmer’s Kris Boyd on Wednesday evening.

Baylor offered the 6-foot, 175-pound two-way standout for the Buckeyes who will likely play cornerback at the next level. InsideTexas.com broke the news via Twitter just before 10 p.m. Wednesday.

Baylor joins Oklahoma, TCU, Texas, and Texas Tech as Big 12 programs that have already offered Boyd, who has assembled two stellar seasons as a sophomore and junior.

Boyd has led Gilmer in rushing each of the last two seasons, amassing 2,467 rushing yards, 3,026 yards from scrimmage, and 44 total touchdowns.

He finished the 2013 season with 1,191 yards and 19 touchdowns on 113 carries, along with 22 catches for 333 yards and four scores. Defensively, Boyd recorded 29 tackles, a team-leading three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and two pass breakups.

As a sophomore, Boyd ran for 1,276 yards and 19 touchdowns on 161 carries while catching 20 passes for 226 yards and two scores. He added 18 tackles, one forced fumble, and three pass breakups from his spot in the secondary.

Baylor has been active recruiting East Texas’ 2014 and 2015 classes with 11 offers out in the region.

Mount Pleasant receiver K.D. Cannon and Liberty-Eylau athlete Davion Hall, widely regarded as the region’s top two players in this year’s senior class, are committed to Baylor, as well as Nacogdoches senior defensive end Greg Roberts and Troup junior quarterback/athlete Blake Lynch.

Longview senior defensive tackle Zaycoven Henderson, who recently said he plans to commit Monday, has named Baylor, Texas, and Texas Tech has his final three.
