TYLER — It took close to six hours of baseball Saturday, but the Beckville Bearcats will get their matchup with district rival White Oak next week for the regional championship.

Beckville took the decisive third game from Edgewood, 5-4, in their Class 3A Region II semifinal series at Mike Carter Field. Earlier in the day, the Bulldogs extended the series with an 8-5 win in Game 2.

The Bearcats (32-3) will meet White Oak for a berth at the UIL state baseball tournament, which is scheduled for June 8-9 from Dell Diamond in Round Rock.

Beckville, which finished first in District 16-3A, split its two regular-season meetings with the Roughnecks (29-7). The Bearcats will shoot for its second state tournament appearance in three seasons, while White Oak is looking to get back to state for the first time since 2010.

Edgewood concluded its season at 35-8.

Beckville jumped out to a 5-1 lead after three innings in Game 3, but Edgewood rallied for three runs in the fifth to trim the deficit to a run. The Bulldogs put the tying and go-ahead runs on in the sixth and seventh, but could never get over the hump.

That was a common them for Edgewood, which stranded 11 runners for the game.

Austin Bryan recorded the game’s final five outs to notch the save for Beckville. Zeke Collins got the win, working 4 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on four hits. He struck out six, walked three, and hit three batters.

Ty Jones went 3-for-4 with a double, Bryce Osborn had two hits and drove in a run, and Trey Lindsay recorded an RBI triple for Beckville.

Osborn scored on a wild pitch and Bryan had an RBI groundout to give Beckville a 2-0 lead in the second. Osborn delivered an RBI single in the third, and Lindsay tripled home a run and scored another in the Bearcats’ two-run fourth inning.

Edgewood cut the lead to 2-1 in the second on a Connor McKibben sacrifice fly. The Bulldogs’ three runs in the fifth came courtesy of Hunter Robinson’s two-run single and a Beckville error.

In Game 2, Edgewood raced to a 6-0 lead after two innings and had to hold on late to force a third game.

Beckville chipped away at the lead and got within a run, 6-5, in the sixth, but the Bulldogs got a couple of insurance runs in the seventh on a McKibben sac fly and Garrett Treadway’s RBI single.

Jayden Morgan and Cooper Hill each had two RBI’s for Edgewood.
