LONGVIEW -- Neither Beckville or Iola had lost a set in postseason prior to Saturday's Class 2A Region III championship game at Longview's Lobo Coliseum. Both lost two in the title game to set up a fifth-set showdown.

The Ladycats lost the final set by three points and consequently the match, 28-26, 15-25, 18-25, 25-17, 15-12. Iola, ranked No. 1 in the final Texas Girls Coaches Association's Class 2A poll, punched its ticket to the UIL state tournament this upcoming week in Garland.

Carson Blair, Kinley Blair and Cassie Elizondo recorded 12 kills each in the match. Kinley Blair also scored on three aces and five blocks for a team-best 20 total points.

The team committed 25 errors for Iola points in the match, a great number under normal circumstances through five sets but just not quite enough to take down the No. 1 team in Class 2A.

Beckville closed its season with a 37-6 record. It reached the regional championship game for the first time in program history since 2002.
