TEXARKANA — Tatum sophomore quarterback J. D. Taylor threw for 205 yards and three touchdowns and the Eagles scored 35 unanswered points over the final 30:18 to give head coach Andy Evans his 100th win with the school.

Class 2A's seventh-ranked Eagles scored on special teams and on defense and had two plays go for 97 yards or more during a 49-7 shellacking of Pleasant Grove at Hawk Stadium on Friday.

Taylor capitalized on the second PG turnover of the game, a muffed punt recovered by Devon Boyd at the PG 5-yard line just 2:10 into the game. On the first play from scrimmage in the game, Jaylen Shans intercepted a flea-flicker deep ball and returned it 42 yards.

Taylor hit Dyllan Fields for a nine-yard score, and after the Hawks punted and pinned the Eagles at their own 2, Taylor connected with Deyanta Roberson for a 98-yard touchdown down the left sideline.

Roberson finished with three catches for 123 yards and two touchdowns, also grabbing a 17-yard score on a slant in the final minute of the first half. Taylor completed 12 of 15 passes for 205-yard, three-touchdown night.

Shans scored from the 6-yard line with 6:18 left in the first half, and Demetrius Hill scored from seven yards out at the two-minute mark. Poor clock management by Pleasant Grove allowed Tatum to get the ball back, and Taylor and Roberson hooked up a second time.

Chaston Brooks reurned a punt 58 yards for a score with nine ticks left in the third, and Klifton Willis stopped a 14-play drive by the Hawks when he snagged his fifth interception of the year and returned it 97 yards for the score with 4:11 remaining.

PG had 160 yards of total offense, compared to the 352 by the Eagles.

Kayin Cooks caught a 26-yard pass out of the backfield from Dylan Silvey on the first play of the second period to cut the Hawks’ deficit to 14-7.
