East Texas lost its second coach of 2015 on Saturday when Big Sandy baseball coach Jeff Blackstone was killed in a car accident.

Blackstone, a 1994 Harmony graduate who coached for 13 years, died after being in a head-on collision on Highway 155. He leaves behind his wife and four children.

"Still hasn't sunk in yet completely that he's gone. He knew baseball, he knew the game, he loved it. He affected a lot of lives. He put a lot of people on the right track, he helped them a lot," former player Daniel Richardson told KLTV.

Blackstone also was an assistant football coach at Big Sandy. He previously coached baseball at Kilgore and Harmony.

A candlelight vigil is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. Monday (June 8) at the Big Sandy baseball field.

Blackstone's death came less than two months after New Diana three-sport coach Keith McKinley passed away from a heart attack.
