There isn't much a team can do when an opponent hangs 71 points on them. Fortunately for the Tyler Bishop Gorman Crusaders, they had Jake Smith.

The sophomore quarterback tied a state record with 10 touchdown passes and threw for a school-record 693 yards -- third all-time -- to help Gorman rescue a wild 91-71 win over Ore City last Friday night.

For his efforts, Smith is the ETSN.fm/Dairy Queen Offensive Player of the Week. He follows last week's winner, White Oak quarterback Heath Hood.

Smith tied former Refugio quarterback Travis Quintanilla, who also passed for 10 touchdowns in 2012. The 693 yards trail only Mike Richardson (725, Marble Falls, 2012) and Quintanilla (712, 2013).

All 10 of Smith's scoring tosses went to two players -- senior Judah Bell and sophomore Tyler Hobbs, who each tied school records with five touchdown receptions.

Bell, a Navy commit, caught 16 passes for 376 yards (both school records) with touchdowns covering 36, 54, 44, 38, and 16 yards. Hobbs made 10 catches for 272 yards.

Smith completed 30 of 44 attempts, and enters Friday's game at defending Class 3A Division II state champion Waskom with 1,206 passing yards, 14 touchdowns and three interceptions on the season.

If the production through the air weren't enough, Gorman senior running back Ethan Milton rushed for 210 yards and three touchdowns, as the Crusaders (1-2) notched their first win of the season.
