An East Texas football coach is on the move after just two seasons on the job.

In a two-sentence statement, Pine Tree Independent School District announced Thursday that head football coach and athletic director David Collins will resign to become Richardson J.J. Pearce's head football coach as well as the high school's athletic coordinator.

Collins, who was hired prior to the 2014 season after serving as the offensive coordinator at traditional state power Lake Travis, led the Pirates to a 5-15 through his two years.

Pearce, a 6A school, was 3-7 in 2015. The Mustangs will be a member of District 9-6A the next two seasons along with Coppell, Dallas Jesuit, Dallas Skyline, Dallas White, Richardson, Richardson Berkner, and Richardson Lake Highlands.

Pine Tree needs to find Collins' successor and the school's sixth head coach since 2000 quickly. It is permitted to begin in-season football workouts Aug. 8.

Pine Tree's board of trustees will address the coaching vacancy during a meeting Monday.
