MESQUITE -- John Tyler quarterback and Houston commit Bryson Smith ran for two touchdowns and threw for two more to lead the Lions to their first District 11-6A win, a 42-14 rout of North Mesquite on Friday.

Smith threw for 218 yards on 15 of 24 passing while rushing for 117 yards on 14 carries to lead John Tyler, which improved to 4-1 on the season and 1-1 in district.

Both of Ke'Andre Street's catches went for John Tyler touchdowns, the second of which gave the Lions a 35-14 lead in the fourth quarter. JT scored 28 unanswered points in the second half.

Cameron Grant and Kiante Stoker added touchdown runs for John Tyler.

Jawuan Clark's 31-yard touchdown run gave North Mesquite (2-3, 1-1) an early 7-0 lead, but Smith responded with an 8-yard score to even the game at 7-7 in the second quarter.

Dreshawn Minnieweather led North Mesquite on the ground with 77 yards on 17 carries, and Clark rushed for 57 yards on three attempts.

Alex Vigil completed 18 of 33 passes for 195 yards, a touchdown an interception for the Stallions.
