ATHENS – A quick start and 41 points combined from Cadell Williams and Dorian Leonard broke Longview through to the second round of the postseason on Tuesday night.

Williams led with 22 and Leonard followed with 19 as Longview battled past Rowlett, 75-57, in a Class 5A Region II bi-district playoff at Cardinal Gym in Athens.

Longview will meet Plano West in the area round.

JaMycal Hasty finished with eight points and Jordan Whitaker chipped in seven. Trez O’Quinn and Davante Williams each had six off the bench for the Lobos, who improvd to 22-12 on the year.

Longview jumped ahead 21-12 after the first quarter over a Rowlett team that ended the Lobos’ playoff run in 2013 in the bi-district round.

The Lobos added three to its lead in the second quarter, taking a 32-21 lead into halftime.

A late Rowlett run pulled the Eagles (19-5) to within seven points midway though the fourth quarter after Longview led by as many as 18 in the third quarter.

Michael Kolawole had a game-high 25 points for Rowlett. Tristan Munoz had 14 and Blake Bushnell finished with nine for the Eagles.
