NACOGDOCHES -- The Carthage Bulldogs advanced to the second round of the playoffs with a 5-0 shutout of Diboll on Saturday, which competed a bi-district sweep.

Carthage (15-10) will face either Gatesville or Madisonville next week in a Class 4A Region III area-round series.

Cagan Baldree allowed just five hits, struck out two and walked two in seven innings on the mound.

Carthage got on the board with two runs in the fourth when KJ Harkrider reached on a fielding error by the Diboll second baseman, which allowed Anthony Chhor and Bryson Crawford to score.

The Bulldogs played add-on with two more runs in the sixth when Trevin Bishop delieved a two-out, two-run single with the bases loaded.

Hunter Townsend led off the seventh with a triple and scored Carthage's final run of the day on a Micah Templeton sacrifice fly.

Carthage earned a 2-1 win in Game 1 over Diboll on Friday, riding Jarod Blissett's two-run triple in the sixth and pitcher Blaine Tomlin's four-hitter.
