MARSHALL -- Cam Haller ran for 197 yards and three touchdowns to lift Marshall to a 46-17 win over arch-rival Hallsville to clinch a playoff spot out of District 16-5A.

Haller, one of East Texas' leading rushers, scored on runs of 3, 80 and 1 yards.

Demarcus Alexander added two touchdown runs for Marshall, while Jacouri Mitchell ran for a score and Tahj Washington a touchdown pass from Hunter Herrington, who only needed to throw five times in the win. The Mavericks (5-4, 4-1 in District 16-5A) finished with 437 total yards in the game with 389 coming on the ground.

Payton McGarvey threw for 166 yards and two touchdowns on 15 of 26 passing for Hallsville, which dropped to 2-6 on the season and 2-2 in district.

Marshall led by as much as 33-3 in the first half before McGarvey connected with Quincy Harris to make the score 33-10 at the break.

Hallsville got within two scores midway through the third quarter when McGarvey found Harris again for a 24-yard touchdown to make the score 33-17, but Haller's 1-yard touchdown and Mitchell's 60-yard scoring run put the game out of reach.
