It's been smooth sailing for Cayuga up to this point, but will it continue in the coming weeks during District 6-A Division I play?

The Wildcats are 4-0 on the year and have outscored opponents, 202-47. However, the combined record of Cayuga's non-district foes -- Cushing, Mount Enterprise, Wortham and Carlisle -- is 9-13. Cayuga may not have faced the stiffest of competition thus far, but the rest of its district is a combined 4-21.

Kerens (2-3) has had an up-and-down start to the season. But the three teams that have defeated the Bobcats this year -- Edgewood, Malakoff and Hubbard -- have combined to go 16-2. Quarterback Nate Betts is a game-changer, having picked up 1,092 yards of offense with 14 touchdowns.

Last season's district champion Italy is off to a slow 1-4 start, but the Gladiators' four losses have come against teams -- Malakoff, Sunnyvale, Hubbard and Hico -- that have combined for a 21-3 record.

The remaining three teams have faired poorly this season. Cross Roads (1-4) is being outscored 209-82, while Dallas Gateway and Itasca are both 0-5 on the year.
