Canton Quarterback Chandler Eiland Commits to ULM
Louisiana-Monroe has its quarterback for the 2015 class.
The Warhawks picked up a verbal commitment from Canton senior Chandler Eiland on Tuesday. The signal caller is the third overall ULM commit in the current class and will be at least the fifth East Texas player the university has netted in a two-year time span.
Chapel Hill athlete Wesley Thompson and defensive end Shaquille Warren signed with the Warhawks in February as did the Palestine duo of running back Ben Luckett and offensive lineman Brian Thiang.
Eiland confirmed the news via Twitter.
ULM has a major hole to fill at quarterback, and Canton’s star could be a serious option down the road.
Kolton Browning made the Warhawks a serious offensive threat against teams from the power conferences and was signed by the Dallas Cowboys in May. He threw for 10,263 yards and 81 touchdowns as a four-year collegiate starter through 2013.
Browning missed a month of his senior campaign yet the Warhawks still finished the 2013 season as a top 60 passing offense.
Eiland passed for 1,861 yards and 18 touchdowns to just two interceptions as a junior and rushed for quite a few more yards. He will be a third-year starter at Canton this season.
He can deliver the ball from multiple points in his downward throwing motion. That means he can pass the ball around oncoming defenders and connect with receivers downfield without losing much velocity or touch from the ideal release point.
Eiland also is a capable runner with a touchdown run of 83 yards last season and several highlight reel throws after maneuvering around a collapsing pocket.
The Warhawks will play at Alabama and Georgia in the Canton quarterback’s true freshman season.
Eiland’s commitment is non-binding. He can officially sign with ULM on Feb. 4, 2015.
He is the third commitment from East Texas in as many days. Teammate Samuel Miller committed to North Texas on Sunday and Whitehouse defensive back pledged to the Mean Green on Monday.
