Canton’s Samuel Miller Commits to North Texas

The Mean Green have made their second score in East Texas’ 2015 class with the commitment of Canton’s Samuel Miller.

Miller (6-3, 220) confirmed he plans on attending North Texas after his senior year via his Twitter account Sunday.

Primarily a defensive end in the eyes of college recruiters, Miller recorded 89 tackles last season for the Eagles with 26 of those tackles for lost yardage. He also forced three fumbles on the way to the first round of the Class 3A Division II playoffs.

He has a great frame and good athleticism for his size. Those traits make him a serious matchup problem for local offensive linemen.

Opposing schools sometimes have as many as three blockers drawn to Miller due to his pursuit angles, speed and strength. It creates opportunities for other Canton defenders to attack uncontested if the defensive end can’t make the tackle himself.

The senior doubles as a tight end and blocking back on offense for Canton.

Dan McCarney and his Mean Green staff have made a strong impression on the East Texas field of potential FBS players by breaking a nine-season bowl game drought with a 36-14 win against UNLV in the 2014 Heart of Dallas Bowl.

Miller likely will be joining forces with John Tyler receiver and fellow North Texas verbal commitment Rodney Bendy.

In addition to playing quality teams in Conference USA, the Mean Green have games lined up against SMU, Iowa, Florida and Army during Miller and Bendy’s time with the program.
