Canton’s Samuel Miller Picks Up Texas State Offer

The offers keep trickling in for Canton 2015 defensive end Samuel Miller, who received his seventh invitation from a Division I FBS program on Friday night.

Texas State became the latest to offer Miller (6-3, 220), the Eagles' incoming senior tweeted Saturday afternoon. That came on the heels of a two-offer Thursday from ULM and Oregon State, which was the first program from a power conference to extend an offer Miller's way.

The Bobcats, who are led by former TCU, Alabama and Texas A&M coach Dennis Franchione, have made East Texas an area of emphasis.

Texas State has four offers out to 2015 recruits from the region -- Miller, New Boston athlete Jeff Gladney, Nacogdoches cornerback and Oklahoma State commit Jaylon Lane and Tatum safety/linebacker Kyshaun Smith.

The Bobcats are members of the Sun Belt Conference and went 6-6 overall and 2-5 in conference play last season.

Miller's blend of size, speed and athleticism make him an attractive target of schools at the next level. In addition his work on the defensive line, Miller also lines up at tight end on the offensive side of the ball.

He had a strong junior season, which included 89 tackles, 26 of the tackles for loss, as well as four sacks and three forced fumbles. His play helped spur Canton to recover from an 0-4 start and reach the postseason.

Canton will compete in the new District 5-4A Division II this fall along with Bullard, Emory Rains, Gilmer, Melissa and Nevada Community.
