HARMONY -- The defending state champion Carlisle Indians continued their winning ways with a 10-5 victory over Maud in Game 1 of their Class A Region III quarterfinal playoff series Friday night.

Carlisle (21-3) will go for the sweep when the two teams meet again for Game 2, which is scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday back at Harmony High School. A third game, if necessary, would follow.

Ben Goss led way at the plate for the Indians by going 2-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Justin McMurtry did not collected a hit, but walked twice and had three runs driven in, while Caleb Colley (2-for-3) and Dalton Sanders each had one RBI.

Zach Brightwell (12-1) picked up the win on the mound. He allowed one run on two hits with 10 strikeouts and one walk in six innings.
