Carthage Softball Takes Down Groesbeck in Bi-District Round

ATHENS -- Carthage powered past Groesbeck, 9-1, in the teams' Class 3A Region III playoff game at Trinity Valley Community College and advanced to the area round of the state-wide tournament.

Lady Dogs' starting pitcher Samantha Clakley threw a four-hit complete game and recorded 13 strikeouts to three walks. Groesbeck's one run was unearned.

Carthage scored nine runs on 10 hits.

The Lady Dogs were led by Kacey Maines. She batted 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Teah Reese recorded 3 RBIs in a 2-for-3 night and scored one run herself.

Ashleigh Edge rounded out the top Lady Dogs performers with a 2-for-3 night, 2 RBIs and one run scored.

Carthage will play either Caldwell or China Springs in the area round. The times and locations are to be determined.
