Carthage Takes Down Emory Rains + Carlisle Advances in Volleyball Playoffs

WINONA -- The Carthage Lady Dawgs advanced in the playoffs with a 3-1 area-round win over Emory Rains on Saturday.

Carthage defeated Rains, 23-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-10 in their Class 4A Region II area playoff.

The Lady Dawgs will face Wills Point in the regional quarterfinals Monday or Tuesday.

Matti Doffitt had 12 kills and four blocks to lead Carthage. Emily Pyle added nine kills, DeDe Pope finished with eight kills and six blocks, Carson Robertson had seven kills and 10 digs, while Courtney Edge chipped in with 28 digs.

Rains (27-14) was led in the losing effort by McKenna Hildebrandt, who finished with 12 kills and eight blocks. Summer Nerkowski had eight kills as did Chanlee Oakes. Shelbi Sheppard added seven kills, 23 assists, and 25 digs, and Aubrey Gowin provided seven kills and four blocks.

Vivian Bradshaw contributed 15 assists, while Presley McAree and Elissa Elliott had 16 and 15 digs, respectively.

Carlisle Defeats Cumby

WHITEHOUSE -- The Carlisle Lady Indians earned a 3-1 win over Cumby in their Class 2A Region III area playoff Saturday.

Carlisle advanced with a 25-18, 25-18, 26-28, 26-24 win, and will face Timpson in the regional quarterfinals at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Tatum.

Heather Craig led Carlisle (28-15) with 29 kills and 29 digs. Aubrey Hart wasn't far behind with 20 kills and 10 blocks, Callie Gray had four kills, four aces, and nine digs, Jailin Kee collected 48 assists and eight digs, while Haley Fears finished with 19 digs.
