GILMER -- Carthage visited the Gilmer Lady Buckeyes on Tuesday for a warm up game prior to the softball playoffs beginning Thursday.

The Lady Dogs won the game, 1-0, with a solid outing from pitcher Samantha Clakley. Carthage's starter allowed three hits, two walks and one hit-by-pitch through seven full innings of work.

Ashleigh Edge batted 2-for-3 in the game with a double and scored the lone run of the game. Clakley went 1-for-3 with a double.

Carthage and Gilmer could theoretically meet at the state tournament.

Gilmer begins playoff play in 3A Region II against Van. The series starts at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Brook Hill School in Bullard. Game 2 will be played 3 p.m. Saturday at Brook Hill and Game 3 will follow Game 2 if it's necessary.

Carthage is in 3A Region III and begins postseason play with a one-game playoff against Groesbeck at Trinity Valley Community College in Athens at 6 p.m. Thursday.
