Two starters from Carthage's defense have had recent recruiting activity.

Defensive end Lane Pearce has committed to Ouachita Baptist, while middle linebacker Trent Jackson received an offer from Trinity Valley Community College, per Carthage coach Scott Surratt.

Pearce, who moved to Carthage from DeQueen, Ark., this past offseason, had 56 tackles, 11 for loss, three sacks, one fumble recovery, and eight quarterback pressures for the Bulldogs, who finished 11-3 with a Class 3A Division I state semifinal appearance.

The 6-foot-6, 225-pounder will play for a Division II program at Ouachita Baptist, which is located in Arkadelphia, Ark.

Jackson, who was a key defensive reserve as a sophomore on Carthage's 2010 Class 3A Division II state championship team, has led Carthage in tackles each of the past two seasons. Jackson accumulated 118 tackles, 12 for loss, one sack, three interceptions, four forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries as a senior. The 6-foot, 215-pounder had 153 tackles, 13 for loss, one sack, one interception, and one forced fumble as a junior.

Jackson has also played running back in Carthage's short-yardage jumbo package sets. In the last two seasons, Jackson has run 45 times for 234 yards and 13 touchdowns.
