Carthage’s Ty’kieast Crawford Commits to Baylor
The first commitment of East Texas' 2020 recruiting class was made Sunday evening, and it came from Carthage offensive lineman Ty'kieast Crawford.
The Bulldogs' incoming junior announced via Twitter that he committed to Baylor shortly after receiving an offer from the Bears' staff while on a visit to the Waco campus.
Baylor was the first offer for Crawford (6-5, 310), who became the 17th member of the area's 2020 class to receive an FBS offer. Carthage classmate, ATH Kelvontay Dixon, currently has six FBS offers, including one from Baylor.
In addition to the two Carthage standouts, Baylor has offers out to five other East Texans in 2020: Athens OL Garrett Hayes, Crockett DE Allen Horace, Arp DB Tren Jones, Newton DE James Sylvester, and Lufkin DB Jerrin Thompson.
Crawford was a member of Carthage's 4A Division I state championship team in 2017. He got most of his reps at right tackle in helping the Bulldogs amass a perfect 16-0 record.
Baylor struggled in head coach Matt Rhule's first year, finishing 1-11 (1-8 in Big 12) in 2017. Crawford is the Bears' first commitment in the 2020 class.
Crawford, like all incoming juniors, is first eligible to sign with any program that offers him in December of 2019.
