Corner Kicks Help Palestine Girls Past Henderson In Bi-District Round

TYLER -- Madison Munoz notched two assists on corner kicks and led Palestine to a 3-0 victory against Henderson in the bi-district round of the Class 4A state playoffs Thursday at CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium.

Munoz opened scoring with a feed Lacey Gambrell finished 19 minutes into the match and then closed scoring on a long pass from the corner that Lauryn James was able to maneuver into the net with 10 minutes remaining.

Kilgore Boys Blank Mineola In Opening Round Of Soccer Playoffs

Kilgore Yonatan Contreras was responsible for two goals on the night.
Yonaton Contreras, pictured in last season's bi-district game versus Mabank at Rose Stadium, scored the game-winning goal eight minutes into Thursday's meeting with Mineola in a 5-0 victory.

TYLER -- Kilgore waited about a year for Thursday and did not disappoint the naked eye in its return to the postseason after a heartbreaker in the 2016 state semifinals.

The Bulldogs blasted Mineola, 5-0, at CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium in the bi-district round of the Class 4A playoffs to start what head coach Austin Hall hopes is a return trip to Georgetown for this season's final four.

GEORGETOWN -- Bennett Gierkey recorded 200 minutes of shutout time in two games at the UIL state soccer tournament. It still wasn't enough.

For a second straight match, Gierkey went to Goalie Island and had to help save his Palestine side from absolute heartbreak.

GEORGETOWN -- Jasper got a little closer to the program's ultimate goal Thursday, but the state title it seeks will have to wait at least one more season.

Kennedale defeated the Lady Dawgs, 6-0, in the Class 4A state championship game at Birkelbach Field in Georgetown and successfully defended its 2015 crown. It was the same score Kennedale put up on Kilgore in the duo's state semifinal game Wednesday.

GEORGETOWN -- Kennedale showed no signs of slowing down in its quest to repeat as the Class 4A state champion Wednesday.

The Metroplex squad built a three-goal lead before the eighth minute and cruised to a 6-0 win against Kilgore in Wednesday's state semifinal game on Georgetown's Birkelbach Field.
