Just like his older brother, Center senior receiver JaTerious Evans is on the path to Division I football. He just won't be traveling as far to do it.

Evans (6-1, 180) announced his commitment to Stephen F. Austin via Twitter early Tuesday evening.

In February of this year, his older brother Octavius Evans signed with Boise State, some 1,800 miles in distance by car. JaTerious Evans will be playing college football at SFA in nearby Nacogdoches, about a 45-minute drive from Center.

As a duo last season, Octavius and JaTerious Evans wreaked havoc on opposing defenses. JaTerious finished second on the team in both receptions and yards with 28 catches for 500 yards and five touchdowns. Defensively, JaTerious recorded four interceptions.

The Roughriders finished the 2016 season 6-5 overall, falling to Bridge City, 35-28, in the first round of the Class 4A Division I playoffs.

SFA in an FCS school and member of the Southland Conference. The Lumberjacks are coached by Clint Conque, and finished last season with an overall record of 5-6.

The 'Jacks have signed several East Texas athletes in recent years. There are currently 12 players on the SFA roster with ties to local high schools.

JaTerious Evans will first become eligible to sign with any program that offers him in December.
