TYLER -- In a game that mattered only for city bragging rights, the atmosphere for the 62nd edition of the Rose City Rivalry matched that of many of the previous meetings.

And the game wasn't too bad, either.

Tyler Lee senior quarterback Chance Amie ran for 191 yards and three touchdowns, carrying the Red Raiders to a 34-30 win over John Tyler on Friday night at CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium.

It was the season finale for both teams. Neither Tyler Lee (6-4, 3-4 in District 11-6A) or John Tyler (5-5, 3-4) qualified for the playoffs for the first time since 1989.

John Tyler's fate was realized the night before when Rockwall defeated North Mesquite, making Friday night's game void of postseason implications.

Lee jumped out to a 14-0 lead less than two minutes into the game before John Tyler cut the deficit to 27-24 midway through the third quarter.

But after Tre Allison's 2-yard scoring run and ensuing two-point conversion, Amie returned the momentum to Lee's sideline with a 75-yard touchdown run that pushed the Red Raiders' lead to 34-24 with 5:33 to play in the third.

John Tyler got closer early in the fourth when Devlen Woods found Ke'Andre Street for a 23-yard touchdown, but Lee's defense stopped the Lions on downs on each of JT's next two possessions.

With the Lions out of timeouts and a little more than one minute remaining, Amie ran 16 yards for a first down to seal the Red Raiders' win.

Lee junior running back Ladarius Wickware ran for 110 yards and two touchdowns.

Woods passed for 185 yards with one TD and one interception, and added a team-high 77 yards and a touchdown on 14 rushing attempts. Street had a big night as well, catching five passes for 114 yards and the score.

Marquis Gray returned the game's opening kickoff 46 yards, and on the second play from scrimmage, Amie turned what looked like a busted play into a electrifying 48-yard touchdown run.

Nathan Niedrauer recovered a JT fumble on the ensuing series, and on the first play of Lee's drive, Wickware broke free for a 37-yard touchdown and a 14-0 Red Raiders lead with 10:33 showing on the first-quarter clock.

Woods' 17-yard run in the second quarter cut JT's deficit to 14-6 before Amie's 16-yard touchdown gave Lee a 21-6 lead a little more than one minute later.

Following a Frankie Sanchez 34-yard field goal for the Lions, Wickware gave Lee a 27-9 halftime lead with an 8-yard touchdown in the final minute of the second quarter.

JT scored on its first two possessions of the the second half. Allison completed a jump pass to Tabias Marshall for a 30-yard touchdown, and Allison scored on a 2-yard run later in the third to cut Lee's lead to 27-24.
