CANTON -- Junior quarterback Chandler Eiland accounted for 519 yards of offense and seven touchdowns to lead Canton to a 49-35 District 15-3A victory against Mineola on Friday night at Norris Birdwell Stadium.

Eiland completed 17 of 23 passes for 440 yards and four touchdowns while rushing 13 times for 79 yards and three touchdowns.

The win pushed Canton to 3-4 overall, but more importantly 2-1 in 15-3A and closer to a playoff berth. Canton travels to Brownsboro (2-6, 0-3) on Friday and could likely clinch a playoff spot with a win.

Garrett Denbow and Ryan Slider were the key recipients of Eiland's big passing performance. Denbow caught five passes for 133 yards and two touchdowns, while Slider caught four passes for a game-high 145 yards and two scores.

Slider also had a big impact on defense, where he intercepted a pass and blocked an extra-point attempt.

After an 0-3 start, Canton has won three of its last four games with the Eagles' only loss coming to undefeated district frontrunner Athens, 50-26, on Oct. 11.
