Chapel HIll 2016 kicker/punter Austyn Fendrick picked up his first Division I offer Thursday when Northwestern State extended a scholarship opportunity his way.

The news was announced via Twitter, and later confirmed to ETSN.fm by Bulldogs head coach Thomas Sitton.

Northwestern State, an FCS program, is located in Natchitoches, La., and is a member of the Southland Conference. The Demons are coached by Jay Thomas, and are coming off a 6-6 campaign in 2014.

Fendrick was a points machine for Chapel Hill's offense as a junior, while creating positive field position for his team's defense in 2014.

For the year, Fendrick was true on 5-of-7 field goal attempts with a long of 43 yards, went 53-of-54 on PAT's, and put 28 of 72 kickoffs into the end zone for touchbacks. He also averaged 38 yards per punt for the Bulldogs a season ago.

Fendrick should get plenty of opportunities for more points and touchbacks in 2015, as Chapel Hill returns to the bulk of its impact players on offense after last season's group averaged 38.5 points and more than 430 yards per game last year.

The Bulldogs, who finished 6-6 in 2014, begin the new season Aug. 28 at home against Lindale.
