Chapel Hill 2014 left-handed pitcher Patrick Day committed to Texas Tech on Thursday, he announced on Twitter and later confirmed with ETSN.fm.

Day made the commitment after Tech gave him his first offer.

“It kinda felt right," said Day on his decision. "I’ve been up there, got to meet the coaches and I really liked the atmosphere up there. It’s a young team and a new coaching staff. They told me some things as far as playing, and I just liked it overall, better than anything else.”

Day said he visited Lubbock a few months ago with friend and 2014 football and baseball commit Patrick Mahomes of Whitehouse.

“I’ve grown up with him and played with him my whole life," Day said of Mahomes. "It makes it more comfortable knowing I have a friend up there.”

Day was 5-5 with a 2.24 ERA and 101 strikeouts in 46 1/3 innings for Chapel Hill this past season. He said he had also been in contact with Nebraska, Oklahoma and Texas before the Texas Tech offer.
