Chapel Hill + Tyler All Saints Reach Gold Bracket Championship at Wagstaff Holiday Classic
TYLER -- The Chapel Hill Bulldogs used a big fourth quarter to advance to the Gold Bracket championship game of the Wagstaff Holiday Classic.
Chapel Hill went on a pair of 8-0 runs at the beginning and end of the fourth to take down Brook Hill, 65-45, on Friday afternoon. The Bulldogs will face Tyler All Saints at 8 p.m. Saturday for the championship.
Julius Hill led Chapel Hill with 16 points, five rebounds and three steals. Michael Harris added 15 points and 12 boards, while Keilon Moore chimed in with 15 points and eight rebounds.
Grant Hanks sparked the Guard, who will face Tyler King's Academy at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, with 24 points.
Chapel Hill led 46-40 entering the fourth, and the Bulldogs went to work right away with Moore throwing down one five dunks for Chapel Hill off an assist from Jeffrey Minor.
Harris, Hill, DD Mumphrey had buckets and Moore drained a pair of free throws during the first 8-0 spurt, which pushed Chapel Hill's lead to 56-41. The Bulldogs then closed out the game on an 8-0 run, outscoring Brook Hill 34-17 in the second half.
All Saints Jumps All Over King's Academy to Reach Final
Jaired Maddox had 17 points, five rebounds and three steals to help lead the Tyler All Saints Trojans past Tyler King's Academy, 78-34, Friday to earn a spot in Saturday's championship.
Aston Francis added 16 points, three boards and three steals for All Saints, while teammate Clayton Smith chipped in with 13 points, three rebounds and a pair of steals.
King's Academy, which upset Henderson on Thursday, was led by Caleb Sherrod's 12 points and five rebounds.
The Trojans got off to a 12-3 lead in the first quarter, thanks to a 9-0 run sparked by five points from Maddox and buckets from both Luke Lee and Brice Borgeson.
All Saints led by 15 at the half, and put the game out of reach with a 12-0 run early in the third to push its lead to 51-25. Maddox and Francis each had two field goals during the dominating stretch.
Carthage Slips Past Henderson
Keldean Strong's jumper with 5.1 seconds remaining sent the Carthage Bulldogs to a 73-72 win over Henderson on Friday in loser's bracket action.
K.J. Harkrider came up with a steal on the ensuing possession to seal the win.
Tee Goree led Carthage with 21 points, while Harkrider had 17 and Strong scored 15.
Henderson was led by Tre' Hollins, who finished with a game-high 24 points. Michael White and Daryle Washington combined for 25, with White hitting for 13 and Washington for 12.
Carthage, which was scheduled to play T.K. Gorman at noon Saturday, will reportedly not make the trip back to Tyler after the Bulldogs' coach's father passed away. Henderson instead will play consecutive games -- 10:30 a.m. against Tyler Grace and noon versus Gorman.
T.K. Gorman Overcomes 19-Point Deficit to Stun Tyler Grace
Sean Goforth had 33 points, Ben Ashworth had 25 and the Tyler T.K. Gorman Crusaders overcame a 19-point, second-half deficit to rally past Tyler Grace, 78-73, on Friday.
Grace jumped out to a 50-31 halftime lead, but the Crusaders outscored Grace 47-23 in the second half.
Andrew Melhart led the Cougars with 26 points, while Trevor Gunter provided 18 in the losing effort.
