On the eve of National Signing Day, Chapel Hill senior running back Delenis Garrett announced some interesting news by tweeting that he had accepted a preferred walk-on offer from Texas and committed to the Longhorns.

Garrett (5-9, 200), who played both running back and linebacker as a senior for the Bulldogs, will join Gilmer defensive back Kris Boyd as 2015 East Texas commitments to Texas.

The Chapel Hill standout will not be eligible for full athletic scholarship benefits at the outset of his college career, but over time, could earn them.

Garrett, who started on defense, got the majority of his carries out of the backfield in the red zone. His low center of gravity and powerful lower body made his running style ideal for plays near the goal line. He finished the 2014 season with 244 yards and seven touchdowns on 42 carries.

Texas, under first-year coach Charlie Strong, was 6-7 overall last season and 5-4 in the Big 12. As of now, Texas has two scholarship running backs committed in the 2015 class.
