Chavis Gregory + Tenaha End Overton’s Season in Area Round, 42-8
BECKVILLE -- Chavis Gregory scored four total touchdowns and Tenaha took advantage of four first-half turnovers by Overton to beat the Mustangs, 42-8, in their Class 1A Division II area round game Friday night at Beauchamp Stadium.
J.R. Hill returned two turnovers for touchdowns in a 35-point first-half outburst for Tenaha (7-4), which faces Bremond next week in the regional round at a time and site to be determined. Overton, in its 19th playoff appearance in school history, ended its season at 7-5.
Gregory was responsible for three of Tenaha's first four touchdowns, scoring on runs of 2 and 19 yards and threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to Jacobi Ivy, which put the Tigers up 28-0.
Hill returned an interception 41 yards for a touchdown to put Tenaha up 21-0 and later returned a fumble 95 yards to paydirt to put the Tigers up 35-0 at halftime.
Overton got on the board on a 9-yard run by Jessie Roach and a two-point conversion from K.J. Luster with 8:56 left in the game, but Tenaha immediately responded and Gregory capped the drive with a 9-yard touchdown run.
