No-hitter takes Carthage to 1-0 in District 20-3A

CARTHAGE -- The Lady Dawgs began District 20-3A play with a 10-4 win against Center thanks in large part to pitcher Samantha Clakley's no-hitter Tuesday.

Clakley struck out 14 batters while walking four and hitting one batter for just one earned run in the win.

Carthage (15-2, 1-0) had 12 hits through the seven innings.

The Dawgs were led offensively by Kacey Maines. She was 4-for-5 at the plate with two doubles and four RBI.

Ashleigh Edge was another key contributor in Carthage's win with a 2-for-3 night, three RBI and a run scored.

Morgan Davis batted 2-for-4 to round out Carthage's top performers. She crossed the plate once.

Carthage will play on the road Friday at Huntington. Center will visit Hudson High School in Lufkin on March 13.

 

 Elysian Fields Powers Past Waskom

ELYSIAN FIELDS -- The Lady Jackets used a five-run first inning to get past Waskom in a 9-4 home win to begin District 17-2A play Tuesday.

Sarah Findley batted 2-for-3 from the plate with four RBI and two additional runs scored herself in Elysian Fields' win. Montanna Methvin batted 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Jane Harris pitched the Lady Jackets (6-9, 1-0) to the victory with two hits and four earned runs, all of which were given up in the second inning. She also recorded one RBI offensively.

Waskom had four hitters with one RBI each.

Elysian Fields will play at Jefferson on Friday. Waskom also has a Friday game against Union Grove in Gladewater.

 

Alto run-rules Douglass

ALTO -- The Lady Yellowjackets are off to a hot start in District 21-A with two mercy rule wins. Its second run-rule game came Tuesday, 22-0, against Douglass.

Alto scored seven runs in the first inning and then 15 runs in the second frame. The game was called after three innings.

The Lady Yellowjackets opened the district portion of their schedule with a 22-0 win against Overton on Feb 25. They will play their third district game Friday at Mt. Enterprise.
