CORSICANA -- Josh Thompson caught a 23-yard strike from Noah Hildebrand with 17 seconds remaining to force overtime in a battle for a share of the top spot in District 17-5A, but Corsicana made the Dragons pay for only getting a field goal in the extra period.

Corsicana won the game, 24-20, and remained in a first-place tie with Ennis in the league standings. The loss demoted Nacogdoches into a two-team tie for third place alongside Jacksonville, but it did manage to hold a one-game lead against both Lindale and Whitehouse at the bottom of the six-team standings with three games to play.

The Dragons (4-3, 1-1) owned a 10-0 lead at the break thanks to a 29-yard field goal from Chris Campos and a 3-yard run from East Texas' leading back Phillip Jones before Corsicana got into gear.

Corsicana (4-3, 2-0) got a field goal and a touchdown of its own in the third period to set up a dramatic fourth quarter finish.

Blake Hoffman caught an 80-yard touchdown pass early in the fourth quarter before Thompson managed to tie the game.

Nacogdoches will host Whitehouse next week while Corsicana simultaneously visits Lindale.
