With the playoffs just days away, Crockett senior Lucky Daniels has decided to make his plans for college before his team's postseason journey begins.

Daniels (5-10, 175) verbally committed to Lamar University, he announced through Twitter on Wednesday afternoon.

The Bulldogs' 2017 ATH chose Lamar over Texas Southern.

Daniels, who plays receiver, defensive back, and returns kicks, has had a major impact in all three phases of the game this season, and is a versatile athlete that could be utilized on either offense or defense at the next level.

He told ETSN.fm recently that Lamar is recruiting Daniels more as a receiver. Daniels will re-unite with former Crockett quarterback Case Robinson, a true freshman at Lamar.

Crockett enters this Friday’s Class 3A Division II playoff game against West Rusk (7-3) at 9-1 overall on the season. The Bulldogs' only loss came to No. 2 Newton on Oct. 7.

At the fourth annual ETSN.fm + APEC Football Recruiting Combine in Tyler this past May, Daniels was one of the event’s participants. He ran a laser-timed 40-yard dash in 4.70 seconds, and tied for first among receivers with 11 bench press reps at 185 pounds.

Lamar, located in Beaumont, is an FCS member of the Southland Conference. The Cardinals are 3-6 overall and 3-4 in league play this season.

Daniels, like all senior high school football players, will become eligible to sign with any program that offers him in February.
