COMMERCE — Through two quarters, Center and Dallas Carter were as evenly matched as it gets.

And then the third period happened.

Carter took control in the third by forcing eight Roughriders turnovers, earning a 55-45 win in their Class 4A Region II semifinal Friday night at the Field House on the campus of Texas A&M-Commerce.

The Cowboys (31-5) will meet district rival Dallas Lincoln at noon Saturday with a berth at the state basketball tournament at stake.

Center finished its season at 32-3.

Carter broke open a 25-25 game at the half by beginning the third quarter on a 7-0 run. Center eventually got within two points early in the fourth, but Carter was able to close the door.

Malek Butler led Carter with 15 points. Anthony Turner added 11 points and five rebounds, Dante Stearns had 10 points and six rebounds, while Kyree Rogers had five of the team’s 11 steals — three coming in the third quarter.

Center’s leading scorer JaTerious Evans was plagued by foul trouble for most of the game, eventually fouling out with less than three minutes remaining. He finished with 10 points, seven rebounds, and two assists.

Reggie Daniels II added 10 points, 10 rebounds, and four blocked shots in the loss.
