ALTO -- The eighth-ranked West Sabine Tigers relied on a suffocating defense to defeat preseason district favorite Alto 28-10 on Friday night to remain unbeaten on the season.

West Sabine (6-0, 2-0 in District 10-A Division I) limited Alto (4-3, 1-1) to just 142 total yards of offense to avenge last season's 40-26 loss to the defending league champion Yellow Jackets.

Jacolby Whitaker led Alto with 93 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries. Quarterback Zac Sturns was limited to 49 total yards -- 39 yards on 15 carries and 3-of-8 passing for 10 yards.

West Sabine hosts fellow district unbeaten San Augustine, while Alto plays at Grapeland next Friday night.
