MESQUITE -- Different year, same result.

The Henderson Lions dominated the Celina Bobcats, 64-35, for the second consecutive year behind the legs of Diamante Wright and Patrick “Monster” Brown, advancing to the Class 3A Division II Region II finals where they will meet “District of Doom” rival Gilmer next Friday night at 7 p.m. at Lobo Stadium.

The two-man show of Brown and Wright combined for 432 yards and eight touchdowns in leading the Lions' offense to 48 second-half points, accounting for all but 5 yards of the Lions' total offensive output.

Wright finished the night with 293 yards and three touchdowns on 30 carries, while “Monster” finished with 139 yards and five TDs on 20 carries. Brown threw the ball just five times, completing two for just 9 yards.

The Lions erased a four-point halftime deficit following a risky decision to accept an offsides penalty after a successful 38-yard field goal on fourth-and 6. The ensuing play was a fourth-and-1 with Brown racing untouched around the left side for the score, and the Lions never trailed again.

Henderson scored on its next five possessions, as well as forcing three turnovers, one of which was returned 87 yards by Kenny McCown on an interception for a score. Brown scored on runs of 34 and 1 yards, while Wright scored from 44, 8 and 9 yards out.

The Lions defense stiffened in the second half, allowing one big play on a Deshawn Davis 72-yard run with the rest of the yardage coming once the game had been put out of reach.

Celina (10-3) sophomore QB Nathan Elliott was 14 of 24 on the night for 174 yards, 143 coming late in the fourth, and a TD. He also threw two interceptions. Davis finished with 170 yards on just 12 carries and two touchdowns. Both started out well as the Bobcats built a 20-16 halftime advantage, with both scoring on runs – Elliot’s from 29 and Davis’ from 60.

The Bobcats defense even managed to contain Brown for the majority of the first half. Stopping Wright was another story. The senior tailback had 151 yards in the first half, 126 of which came in the first quarter.
