East Texans Claim 6 of 8 State Berths on the Line Friday at 2A Region III Track Meet

WHITEHOUSE -- East Texans claimed six of the eight state berths that were up for grabs Friday at the first day of the Class 2A Region III track and field championships at Wildcat Stadium.

Garrison's Shelby Greshman cruised to gold in the discus, throwing 133 feet, 5 inches to win the event and qualify for the state meet in Austin in two weeks. White Oak's Whitney Simmons snagged the other state berth with a second-place throw of 116 feet.

White Oak's Madison Pecot registered a big win in the pole vaut. Her 12-foot vault was the day's best by almost 2 1/2 feet.

Tatum's Kenija Collier took home triple jump gold thanks to an almost 2 1/2-foot advantage in her victory. Collier jumped 39 feet, 9 3/4 inches, while Winona's Jamece Gulley (37-4 3/4) edged Sabine's Haley Stuart (37-2 1/2) for second place.

Elkhart's Anna Clark ran a 12:40 in the 3,200-meter run to claim second place and qualify for the state meet.

The girls remaining field event finals -- shot put, long jump, and high jump -- start at 9 a.m. Saturday at Wildcat Stadium. Running finals start at approximately 2 p.m.
