The annual release of Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine was a couple of weeks ago, and East Texas was once again well represented in the publication's polls.

While no East Texas team ranked in the Class 5A top 10 -- Longview was No. 25 -- at least one team ranked 10th or higher in every other classification.

Carthage (3A), Newton (2A Division I), and Tenaha (1A Division II) each grabbed No. 1 rankings to lead the East Texas contingent. Gilmer (3A) and Alto (1A Division I) followed with No. 2 rankings, while New Boston (2A Division I) snagged a No. 3 spot.

Whitehouse is the highest-ranked Class 4A program at No. 6, four spots ahead of District 16-4A rival John Tyler.

The magazine ranks the top 25 schools in 5A, 4A, and 3A, then ranks the top 10 schools in each 2A and 1A division. Several other East Texas teams are ranked between Nos. 11 and 25 in different class.

The 2012 season was the first since 2000 that an East Texas team did not win a football state championship. DCTF does not see that happening for a second consecutive season. The publication picks Carthage (3A Division I), Gilmer (3A Division II), Newton (2A Division I), and Tenaha (1A Division II) to bring home state crowns.
