Some call the triple the game of baseball's most exciting play, and Elkhart senior Jacob Cheatham provided plenty of exciting moments this past season.

Cheatham set the single-season national record for triples in a season with 17, according to the National Federation of State High School Associations.

The previous record was 16, which was shared by Alex Ortiz of Rochester, N.Y. (2009) and Steve Kopepasah of Marlow, Okla. (1976).

Cheatham, who has signed with Cisco Junior College, hit .556 in leading Elkhart to the Class 2A regional semifinals this past season. He earned first-team Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association all-state honors and was the District 19-2A Offensive Player of the Year.
