Elysian Fields senior volleyball standout Kayetlyn Busbey was named the Texas Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 10-16 by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

Busbey, who has started at libero since her freshman season, led Elysian Fields to a pair of wins -- 3-0 at Ore City and 3-1 vs. Union Grove -- that week. Busbey had 35 digs, two aces, and 14 service points in the Sept. 11 road sweep of Ore City, then had 41 digs, one ace, and 16 service points in the Sept. 14 four-game home victory against Union Grove.

"She has overcome three knee injuries and has had knee surgery every year since her freshman year," including two ACL surgeries, said EF coach Candy Kelley. "She does a fantastic job for our team on defense. She is very deserving of this honor."

The AVCA selects one player in the state through stats entered on MaxPreps.com for each week’s award.

Busbey and the Lady Jackets are 19-9 overall and 4-2 in district entering Friday's home match against New Diana (23-7, 5-1). Elysian Fields continues league play Tuesday at Waskom.
