9.Greg Ward

  • Athlete (Quarterback, receiver, defensive back)
  • John Tyler
  • 5-10, 160
  • committed to Houston; additional offers from Memphis, Rice (per John Tyler coach Ricklan Holmes)

One of the best seasons statistically in East Texas history came from Greg Ward in 2011, when the John Tyler quarterback led the Lions to the Class 4A Division I state semifinals and an 11-4 record.

Ward threw for almost 3,600 yards with 32 touchdowns and five interceptions while rushing for more than 1,200 yards and 18 scores. With a slew of playmaking receivers in JT’s spread offense, Ward may eclipse those passing numbers in 2012.

But Ward probably won’t play quarterback in college. Don’t be surprised if the JT signal caller winds up intercepting passes at the next level instead of throwing them. Of course, his speed and agility could also land him at receiver, where he’d be a terror in the slot. Ward would fit well in Houston’s spread offense as a receiver.

His offer list could grow from the existing three Division I FBS offers he has now, especially if he becomes a cornerback target for more schools.

The ETSN 25 countdown so far ...
