You don't get more accomplished in East Texas football than Daingerfield. Six state championships (the most of any area program) in four different decades says all that needs to be said.

And once again, Daingerfield enters a season with state-title aspirations with 12 returning starters from last year's Class 2A Division I state finalist.

Daingerfield graduated two of its top players from 2012 -- Edwin Mims and Shawn Hooks -- but plenty of other options are back for third-year head coach Aric Sardinea. Quarterback Keris Alexander tops the list after a solid debut season that included 2,200 yards and 19 touchdowns. Also back is 1,000-yard rusher Cordarius Anderson and massive offensive lineman Willie Evans (6-4, 350).

Defensively, linebacker Calvin Bryant (5-10, 185) returns for his senior year after finishing second in the area in tackles last season with 212. Hard-hitting safety Corey Smith (5-10, 175) is back following a junior campaign that featured 101 tackles and three interceptions.

Daingerfield's biggest threat in the district is New Boston, which edged the Tigers for the league championship during the regular season before Daingerfield returned the favor in the playoffs. The Tigers get New Boston at home this year on Oct. 4.
