Defending state champion Carthage began this season with losses in five of its first six games, but the Bulldogs have now won two in a row and seem poised for a strong finish.

Carthage (3-5) re-entered the ETSN.fm East Texas Class 4A poll at No. 8 after its 55-14 rout of Brownsboro last Friday night.

Athens (5-3), which earned a 44-23 defeat of Kaufman last week, also made a return appearance in the rankings.

The top seven spots from last week remained the same.
